CGI Window Installation: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

CGI window installation in Palm Beach typically runs $850 to $2,400 per opening when you’re replacing a failed unit or upgrading to impact-rated glass, and we keep the most common CGI frame sizes and hardware on our trucks for same-week turnaround. Most Palm Beach homeowners call us after a storm revealed hairline cracks in the laminate, or after a window simply won’t close flush against the jamb anymore, letting humidity and road noise seep in around the edges. The failing part is rarely the whole window: it’s usually the frame anchoring, the balance system, or a seal that gave out years before anyone noticed.

We’re Winslow Windows & Doors, and we’ve been installing and repairing CGI products since 2011. We’re an independent installer, not a CGI corporate entity. That matters because we see what actually fails in Palm Beach’s salt air and afternoon squalls, and we quote accordingly. No ticket numbers, no call centers. You call, a person answers, and we schedule a real estimate.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI’s product line breaks into a few families, and they’re not interchangeable. Estate Collection windows (typically 7050 and 7500 series) use heavier extruded aluminum frames with a 2-1/4 inch or 2-1/2 inch depth, and they’re the most common choice on Palm Beach’s Intracoastal and ocean-facing homes. Sentinel and Legacy lines are slightly lighter but still impact-rated, and we see plenty of those in mid-century ranches around Phipps Park and the South End. Each line uses different balance hardware and glazing beads, so a part that fits a Sentinel won’t slide into an Estate frame without modification.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t catch until it’s too late: CGI’s glazing bead profile changed around 2014. Older Estate units shipped with a square-cut bead; newer ones use a slightly narrower wedge profile. If you order a replacement sash or balance based on the series number alone, you can end up with a bead that won’t seat, and the window will rattle in wind. We check the original installation sticker on the head jamb or the etched corner marking on the glass before we order anything. For older units without stickers, we measure the frame pocket depth and the glass thickness. The sputtered metal coating and visible laminate line on the edge of the glass are dead giveaways of an older CGI build.

On OEM versus aftermarket: for glass and frame components, we always recommend genuine CGI parts. The laminated glass packs are engineered to a specific thickness tolerance, and aftermarket glass makes warranty claims messy. For hardware like balances and pivot bars, quality aftermarket equivalents from established suppliers work fine and often outlast the originals, especially in coastal Palm Beach conditions. We don’t use economy hardware; the corrosion alone knocks years off the lifespan.

Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash drags or sticks mid-operation. Balance tubes wear out after roughly 8 to 12 years in Palm Beach humidity, and the window starts fighting you. If you hear grinding or feel uneven resistance, the balance is done.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. CGI’s laminated packs are sealed with a polyisobutylene edge seal. When that seal breaches, moisture gets in. You can’t wipe it away. The glass pack needs replacement, not a sealant patch.
  • Drafts or visible daylight around the closed sash. The wool pile weatherstripping compresses over time, especially on west-facing Palm Beach exposures. Once compressed, it should’t be re-fluffed; it’s a replacement item.
  • Water staining on the interior frame or sill. This points to failed exterior sealant at the frame-to-wall junction or a clogged weephole. Palm Beach’s driving rain finds every gap. The fix is pulling the unit, re-flashing, and re-installing so water drains out the bottom instead of into the wall.
  • The window locks but a corner lifts slightly. The keeper or cam has worn, or the hinge on an awning/casement unit is sagging. This is more than annoying: a corner gap breaks the unit’s impact rating. In a storm, that’s the window that fails first.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An installed CGI window replacement in Palm Beach runs $850 to $2,400 per opening, depending on size, series, and whether we’re doing a full-frame replacement or a pocket insert. A single-sash repair with new balance hardware and weatherstripping is far less, typically $225 to $500. Large Estate units with custom glass packs, like picture windows on El Brillo Way or fixed transoms on El Vedado Road, land at the top of the range due to glass costs and the need for a two-person install crew.

Scope Palm Beach Installed Range
Balance hardware + weatherstripping (single window) $225 - $500
Pocket insert (standard-size CGI Sentinel/Legacy) $850 - $1,400
Full-frame replacement (CGI Estate, stock size) $1,400 - $2,000
Full-frame replacement (custom/oversized Estate) $2,000 - $2,400+

Our price includes the part, labor, new exterior sealant, and re-anchoring to Palm Beach code. If the old unit used those little foam backer rods behind the flange, we replace those too. Estimates are free, and the price on the estimate is the price on the invoice. Ed Winslow signs off on the final scope before we touch the job.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check a few things yourself: look for a yellowing or cracked exterior silicone bead, test the sash for even closing, and look for a visible gap between the frame corner and the wall. Those observations help when you call us. What you should’t do is remove a CGI window from its frame. These units are heavy, the glass pack alone can weigh 80 pounds or more, and the frame is under compression from the wall opening. A wrong lift and that laminated glass comes down edge-first on a foot or a window well.

We’ve repaired dozens of Palm Beach homeowner attempts gone sideways: cracked drywall from dropped sashes, torn flashing, stripped balance anchors. Most of those jobs ended up costing more than the original professional fix would have. Our crew is background-checked, uniformed, and insured. We’ll do it right the first time, and the 36500-Day Done Right Promise means if something’s off later, we’re coming back. Call (561) 831-7863 for a free estimate, and Ed will tell you straight what needs replacing and what can wait.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."
