ViewLux Impact Garage Doors: The Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install ViewLux-compatible impact garage doors throughout Palm Beach, with most complete door replacements running $4,200 to $8,900 installed depending on size, track system, and opener integration. We carry replacement panels and hardware on our trucks for same-week service, and we’re an authorized ViewLux installer, not a reseller guessing at compatibility. The way most Palm Beach owners find us: a spring lets go with a sound like a rifle shot, a panel shows a stress crack after a near-miss from flying debris, or the door suddenly binds halfway up because salt air has eaten through a roller bracket that looked fine from ten feet away.

Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux builds their impact garage door line primarily around two series: the VX-200 (single-skin aluminum, rated for standard wind zones) and the VX-500 (insulated double-skin, required for most Palm Beach barrier island locations where wind uplift demands a heavier door). The fastest way to identify yours is the sticker on the inside of the bottom panel near the left track: it lists the series, the panel height, and the production date. If that sticker’s peeling off or painted over – common on doors installed a decade ago – measure a single panel. VX-200 panels are 18 inches tall, VX-500 panels are 21 inches. That measurement alone resolves most compatibility questions before you even call us.

On OEM versus aftermarket: ViewLux panels and wind-load-rated track systems are proprietary, and we recommend staying with OEM or our stocked equivalent for anything structural. Rollers, hinges, cables, and bottom seals are a different story. We routinely use equal-or-better aftermarket hardware there at 40 to 60 percent below OEM list price. One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: ViewLux switched hinge-hole spacing on VX-500 doors in 2019, so a hinge that fits a 2017 door will not fit a 2020 door. We keep both patterns on the truck because we’ve seen that mistake made with mail-order parts more times than we can count.

Signs Your ViewLux Impact Garage Doors Is Failing

  • Door hesitates or reverses halfway down. The photo-eye sensors are misaligned or the travel limits on the opener have drifted. On ViewLux doors specifically, the sensor brackets are aluminum and prone to bending if a car tire kisses the track. Usually a ten-minute adjustment, not a part failure.
  • Loud bang followed by the door not moving at all. A torsion spring snapped. This is the most common failure in Palm Beach, where salt air works on untreated spring steel faster than the ten to twelve year average lifespan we see inland. ViewLux springs are oil-tempered from the factory, but nothing survives ocean exposure forever.
  • Visible cracks radiating from a panel corner. Impact doors are built to flex, not shatter, but repeated storm stress and daily thermal cycling eventually fatigue the aluminum skin. A cracked panel won’t pass a wind-load inspection, and on VX-500 models it compromises the insulation core. Panel replacement is usually one-day work.
  • Grinding or squealing when the door moves. Failing rollers, almost always. The bearings seize, the roller flats spot, and then it grinds against the track. Replacing all rollers is cheaper than replacing one seized roller plus the track it wrecked. We recommend nylon rollers with sealed bearings for ViewLux doors – quieter and they don’t rust the way factory steel ones do near salt water.
  • Daylight visible under the closed door along the sides. Weatherstripping and bottom seal have hardened and shrunk. On impact-rated doors this isn’t cosmetic – that gap lets water and wind-driven debris into the gap between door and jamb during a storm. The door’s rating assumes a tight perimeter seal.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Palm Beach, here’s what we quote every week, parts and labor included:

  • Single snapped torsion spring replacement: $280 to $420 installed, depending on spring wire size and whether we do both springs (we recommend replacing both; they fatigue at the same rate).
  • Panel replacement (single panel, VX-200): $650 to $950.
  • Panel replacement (single panel, VX-500 insulated): $900 to $1,400.
  • Full roller and hinge refresh: $240 to $380 for all hardware.
  • Complete ViewLux door replacement (single car, VX-200): $4,200 to $5,800 installed.
  • Complete ViewLux door replacement (double car, VX-500): $6,500 to $8,900 installed.

What drives the range: door width, whether the track system can be reused (old galvanized track near salt water often can’t), and whether your opener needs a new rail or just reprogramming. Every quote is a written line-item price. You’ll see parts and labor broken out separately, and that number doesn’t change once we start. If we find something unexpected behind the door, we stop, call you, and explain it before spending another dime. Every repair and replacement carries our workmanship warranty, and the 36500-Day Done Right Promise means exactly what it says: if it’s not done right, Ed Winslow makes it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things on a ViewLux door you can safely handle yourself. You can replace the bottom seal – it slides out of a channel and the new one slides in. And you can clean and lubricate the rollers and hinges with a dry silicone spray (never grease on coastal doors; it holds salt). Everything else, I’d say call us. Torsion springs hold enough tension to remove fingers or worse if they let go while you’re winding them, and ViewLux’s wind-load track system is pre-tensioned at the factory – it’s not forgiving of improvised adjustments. The number of Palm Beach homeowners who’ve called us after attempting a spring swap themselves and ending up with a door stuck six inches off the ground is not a short list. Call (561) 831-7863 and we’ll have a background-checked tech out with the right part on the truck. We answer the phone – a live person, any hour.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."
